Using a Schneider color pens and Faber-Castel watercolor pencils are quite good. It looks better in real life, so this one’s somehow changed when I scanned it:
Wonder Woman – test sketch.
I still need to experiment on the pens. Need more colored pens just like Schneider.
I received an email from a person who told me Captain Barbell is a Superman rip-off. I was asked if I saw the trailer of the new TV series of Pinoy superhero, the person said it’s really a rip-off. I could agree in some points, but every superhero is a rip-off. We don’t know if waaay back, Egyptians also have comics and they also have Superman-like character.
Last night when I turned on the TV to watch while having a dinner, I saw the behind-the-scene of Capt. Barbell. I was a bit impressed of the costumes and the villains. The CGI’s were rubbish but I guess it’s okay for TV. I just finally realised something about the “film” (or HD tapes) every TV series are using…the frame rates are still in 30fps. WTF? Can’t they use 25fps? In my opinion, if you super-imposed a CGI to a film with 30fps it’ll end up not so convincing to the eyes.
Anyway, I kinda like Capt. Barbell’s costume…although, Enteng is quite handsome. But they’ve got an idea; give him a scar or marks on the face to make him ugly. Yeah, theat’s a good idea. Why not make him a hunchback with one googly eye, and a distorted nose. That would work! Hahaha! I hope I could stand to watch it. Tonight it’s the premiere of the first episode on GMA 7. I just hope this won’t be another Darna-Drama series.
I thought it would be better if they stick to the concept of Herbert Bautista and Edu Manzano concept. I really like that movie even though the effects were so rubbish. I mean, they should have casted…let’s say Epi Quizon as Enteng and Richard Gutierez (or Louis Manzano) as Capt. Barbell. Epi Quizon is the son of Dolphy who was also Captain Barbell and Enteng in late (or early? ) 70’s.
I hope the series will be okay. I just wish there are less drama/crying scenes…or “oh, no! The got my magic barbell! How can I save the people now?” scenes.
I don’t like putting down our local comic book superheroes. Instead of pounding some bad criticisms “it is a rip-off“, why not develop it? Share thoughts on how you gonna make it original. There are possible ways to make our comic book heroes look and sound original. I think Darna is original. Where can you find a Western comic book superhero who swallows a stone to become invincible? I haven’t seen (or heard) one…but if you have let me know.
