Okay, I forgot all about this one-shot issue of Uncanny X-Men pencilled by Whilce Portacio and inked by me. This issue is already out since two weeks ago. I hope you got it already.
Just thought of taking a picture viewed outside our window; overview of Makati skyscrapers with smog/fog after the rain. Gonna post a quick how-to video of how I did this…later.
I’ve been waiting for Gerry to post something about his take whether sketching in a comic book signing or a small comic convention is free or not free anymore.
Last year at the 3rd Komikon, I was with Comic Odyssey tables to sell some mini-comics and did some sketches. Signing comics is totally free, but selling comics and sketching weren’t. I had a little financial shortage that time and I needed cash.
I only did it coz I realized sketching in a small comic con is really exhausting, and I was a bit confused at the Komikon with people looking and asking what I’m selling. Anyway, I had to let people/fans to pay me for the drawing they have asked me to do for them. But these drawings weren’t just doodles or simple sketches, these are close to quality drawings we are doing for our job in the business. Just to make it worth-the-pay, I gave more time to do the details to satisfy the customer. There was one who asked me to draw a portrait of a girl…I’m not complaining, but it was a challenge coz I’m not really good in portraiture. I can do caricature, but getting the closeness of the drawing to the actual person is really, really hard.
From now on, our sketches in a comic book signing or convention aren’t free anymore…unless if it’s just less than two-minute drawing.
Oh yeah. If you see us in a mall walking, or in a comic book store like Comic Odyssey just browsing comics or just dropping by, don’t ask us for a sketch. Okay, maybe a one-minute drawing will be fine, but don’t ask us to draw one-minute per character or we will strangle you.
Little note to those who are asking for commissions (local/Philippine customers only), you can send me an e-mail for inquiry.
